Homestead Daily ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our web application and website at homesteaddaily.app, and our mobile applications (when available).

2. Data We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account Information: Your email address, and (if you create an account) a display name and password hash handled by Firebase Authentication. Passwords are never stored in plaintext.
  • Billing Information: If you subscribe to a paid plan on the web, your payment card details are collected and stored directly by Stripe, our PCI-compliant payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Farm Data: Information you enter about your animals, garden, production records, and other homestead activities. This data is stored primarily on your device and synced to our secure servers for backup purposes.
  • Photos: Images you take for AI plant identification or animal health analysis. These are processed in real-time and are not stored permanently on our servers.
  • Usage Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used. This includes anonymized data such as screen views, feature usage, and crash reports.
  • Device Information: Basic device information (operating system, app version) for troubleshooting and compatibility purposes.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and improve the Homestead Daily app experience.
  • To process AI-powered features such as plant identification, disease detection, and farm assistant responses. Photos and questions are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI for analysis but are not stored permanently.
  • To sync your farm data across your devices.
  • To send you important updates about the app (launch announcements, critical updates).
  • To diagnose technical issues and improve app stability.

4. AI Features & Photo Processing

When you use AI-powered features (plant identification, health photo analysis, farm assistant), your photos and questions are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI for processing. These submissions are processed in real-time and are not stored permanently by either Homestead Daily or Anthropic. We do not use your photos or farm data to train AI models.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Period. We only share data with:

  • Anthropic (Claude AI): For processing AI features, as described above.
  • Firebase (Google): For authentication, data storage, analytics, and crash reporting.
  • Stripe:For processing web subscription payments. See Stripe's privacy policy for how they handle payment data.
  • Vercel: Website hosting and basic traffic analytics (page views, Web Vitals).
  • Resend: For delivering transactional email (waitlist confirmations, account emails).

6. Data Storage & Security

Your farm data is stored locally on your device and securely backed up to our cloud servers using industry-standard encryption. You can export or delete your data at any time through the app settings.

7. Cookies & Local Storage

Our website uses cookies and browser local storage for essential functionality, including keeping you signed in via Firebase Authentication and remembering your preferences (such as your USDA zone or dark mode). We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access and export your data at any time.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Opt out of analytics tracking.
  • Unsubscribe from marketing communications.

9. Children's Privacy

Homestead Daily is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes via the app or email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
