What to expect

Courses built for people with chores.

Three things we promised ourselves when we started putting Academy together. If we can't keep these, we won't ship the course.

Short, finishable lessons

15–25 minute lessons you can watch between chores. No 12-hour masterclasses you'll never get through.

Every course ships with worksheets

A printable or fillable template goes with every module — so you finish the lesson with a tool in your hand, not just notes.

Taught from the barn

No studios, no jargon. Filmed on a real homestead, covering what actually worked and what didn't.

First-year curriculum

What we're building first.

We're starting with the questions that land in our inbox every week — coop setup, flock health, keeping records you actually use, and whether any of this pays for itself.

Backyard Chicken Keeping 101

In development

Starting a flock from scratch — breeds, brooder, coop, feed, predators, and the first six months of eggs.

6 lessons · ~90 minutes

Recordkeeping That Actually Sticks

In development

The 4 records that matter on a small homestead, a weekly rhythm you can keep, and how to use the Starter Pack on paper or in the app.

4 lessons · ~60 minutes

Seasonal Planning Workshop

Planned

A January-through-December rhythm for the coop, pasture, and garden — built around your zone, not someone else's.

5 lessons · ~75 minutes

Backyard Egg Economics

Planned

Real feed-cost math, what a dozen actually costs you, and pricing for the farm-gate or market without underselling.

3 lessons · ~45 minutes

Chicken Health Fundamentals

Planned

Spotting the early warning signs, a bird-by-bird check you can do in two minutes, and when to call a vet vs. when to wait.

4 lessons · ~60 minutes

First-Year Garden Foundations

Planned

Soil, layout, and a no-overwhelm planting plan for folks who want to eat something they grew this summer.

5 lessons · ~75 minutes

How a course will run.

Here's the shape we're working toward — subject to change as we learn what actually helps folks finish.

01

Watch in 15-minute bites.

Each lesson stands on its own — start the module, finish the module, apply it the same week.

02

Leave with a worksheet.

Every module ships with the printable or the Starter Pack tool that goes with it. No module ends in theory.

03

Ask questions in a launch Q&A.

First-cohort students get a live Q&A with Kyle. Replays stay on the page afterwards.

While we build the first course

Start with the free Starter Pack.

The Homestead Records Starter Pack is the recordkeeping system the Academy courses are built around. Grab it now, use it through the season, and you'll be ready to plug straight into the first course when it lands.

Honest answers.

We'd rather tell you what we don't know yet than pretend the whole thing is finished.

When does the first course launch?

We're aiming to open the first course — Backyard Chicken Keeping 101 — to the waitlist before anything else. We're not publishing a date yet because we'd rather ship a course we're proud of than hit a calendar. Waitlist members will hear first, and if we hit a snag, we'll tell you what and why.

How much will courses cost?

Individual courses will be priced to be worth a weekend of your time — not a mortgage payment. Waitlist members get early-access pricing on the first course and will see the exact number before anyone else. A yearly Academy pass will come later, once there are enough courses to justify it.

Do I need the app to take a course?

No. Every course is built to work with paper worksheets from the Starter Pack, with the Homestead Daily app, or with whatever notebook you already have. Use what fits.

Will there be a community?

The first cohort gets a live Q&A with Kyle. A proper student community is on the list for year two — we'd rather ship one course well than stretch thin over a forum nobody visits.
